Impressionist Figure Oil on Canvas "Indian Woman", circa 1920. Image size: 10" x 8" high. The piece is on canvas, but it is not stretched, just framed. Back label on title says sketch. Oil on canvas. Signature lower left hand corner. Condition is very good.

Signed lower right E Colburn. Housed in a broad ebonized and partially distressed frame with gilt rabbet edge. Sight - 19" H x 15 1/2" W. Framed - 30 1/2" H x 27" W. Biography (courtesy Askart: The Artists' Bluebook): Elanor Colburn studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and with William Merritt Chase and Frank Duveneck. In 1924 she moved to Laguna Beach, California with her artist daughter, Ruth Eaton Peabody, and built a studio. In 1927 she developed an interest in Native American culture and began traveling for subjects in Arizona and New Mexico. She was a member of the Laguna Beach Art Association, which she directed from 1926-1929, and was a member of the San Diego Art Guild.
