Warren to Mrs. Mary Ellen Warren Scott to Mrs. Anna Warren Scott Pearce" verso 28 1/2" x 20 7/8" actual, 34 1/8" x 26 11/16" framed Nathaniel Warren was a resident of Saccarappa (now Westbrook, Maine) and the largest shareholder of Saccarappa Manufacturing Company, est. 1837. Warren moved to Portland c. 1850 and built a home on the site that is now the Schwartz Building.

      Half length portrait of the young Mr. Lewis seated with his right arm resting on the back of a sofa. Oil on heavy paper inscribed on verso "Painted by Joseph Cole, Portland August 2, 1825." There is a hand inscribed note affixed to verso that reads "This is the portrait of Charles Lewis of Congin- He gave it to his sister Mrs. Elizabeth L. Fox of Portland where it was painted by Joseph Cole August 2, 1825. Charles Lewis died November 15, 1825 age 24 years and 11 months." SIZE: 29" x 21". Overall 32" x 24-1/2". PROVENANCE: Maralyn Young estate, Arundel/Falmouth Maine, being sold unreserved. CONDITION: Large tear in the center of the canvas that has been taped on verso, surface abrasions, surface dirt and spotty varnish. 51412-47
