      Dorothy Jurisich Coleman (American/New Orleans, 1919-2018), "Lush Landscape with Water Lilies", oil on canvas, signed lower right, 18 in. x 24 in., framed. Note: Noted artist and philanthropist Dorothy Coleman maintained a longstanding relationship with the New Orleans art community throughout her life. First studying art with Will Henry Stevens at Newcomb College, Coleman returned to painting after raising a family with encouragement from Auseklis Ozols. Additionally, the two artists founded the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts, which still operates from its Magazine Street location today. Whether admiring sunsets over the Mississippi River, the beaches of Hawaii, or the landscapes of Ireland, Coleman constantly noticed the beauty surrounding her and sought to capture it on canvas or paper. The beautiful landscape presented here includes an interesting foreshortened composition that draws the viewer's eye across the pond and into the bushes and trees beyond.
