      Est: $1,300 - $1,950

Francois Collette (French, b. 1936). Iron relief, ca. 1970s. A fascinating welded iron relief sculpture by French contemporary sculptor Francois Colette. The circular form is divided into multiple sections, each one presenting a distinct scene with some moving parts. Clockwise from the top center the composition includes: 3 cylindrical vessels connected via tubing; a spigot for watering a tree and flowers; 4 stylized human figures standing on steps; numerous French coins suspended behind a screen of wavy bars; 3 figures resting beneath their covers in a bunkbed arrangement; a space inhabited solely by furniture (a pair of chairs, a tall bookcase, a hanging mirror, hanging shelves, and a light fixture) without the presence of people, conjuring a sense of melancholy; an unexpected arrangement of projecting pegs; and at the center, within an arched section, an intriguing instrument or machine with a rotating basket containing a single ball. A feast for the eyes as well as the imagination!
