      Ora Coltman (1858 - 1940) Watercolor on paper, signed lower right "Ora Coltman", piece measures 11 x 11 inches and 19 x 19 inches w/frame. Ora Coltman was born in 1858 in Shelby, Ohio, and died in 1940. He lived most of his life in Shelby, but had an address in Cleveland, which is perhaps where he had a studio.He was a painter, block printer, sculptor, muralist, architect, teacher, and writer.He Studied at the Art Students League in New York City, as well as at the Academie Julian in Paris. Additional study, Margadey Schule, Munich. He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1900, 1903, 1911, 1929, 1932. Additionally, at the Society of Independent Artists, and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, 1925-32. He was a member of the Cleveland Society of Artists and Cleveland Printmakers.His works are exhibited at the Cleveland Museum of Art, The Butler Institute of American Art in Youngtown, Oh. and at the Cleveland Foundation of Art. Additionally he has done murals for the Cleveland Public Library, which he also has works.

      Ora Coltman (Ohio, 1858-1940) oil on board coastal landscape painting depicting a setting sun reflected in a body of water, with cloud-streaked sky overhead. Signed "Ora Coltman" lower right. Housed in a period giltwood leaf-molded frame. Sight: 14" H x 11" W. Frame: 17 1/2" H x 14" W. Biography: Noted Ohio artist Ora Coltman was an influential member of the regionalist Cleveland School and helped found the Water Color Society of Cleveland. He studied with Carroll Beckwith at the Art Students League in New York and in Paris under Jean Paul Laurens. He summered frequently in Zoar and in Provincetown, MA (where this scene may have been painted). Source: the Butler Institute of American Art.

      Ora Coltman Ohio (1858-1940) SHAKER HEIGHTS, SHAKER LAKE, OHIO watercolor, framed, signed & dated: lower right, July 1908 sight size: H10 3/8" W14 1/2" Provenance: Atlanta, Georgia collection. Other Notes: Ora Coltman was born in Shelby, Ohio and spent most of his life in Cleveland. He was an influential member of the regionalist "Cleveland School" of the 1920s. He was an artist who did not limit himself to watercolor and oils but worked in a variety of media including printing and sculpture. He worked for Joseph Carabelli as a designer of cemetery monuments. He was a member of the Cleveland Art Club and also helped to found the Watercolor Society of Cleveland. He studied with Carroll Beckwith at the Art Students League in New York, under Jean Paul Laurens at the Academie Julian in Paris and Margadey Schule in Munich. His art has been exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, the Society of Independent Artists, Cleveland Museum of Art, the Butler Institute of American Art, the Cleveland Foundation of Art and Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art. He has done murals for the Cleveland Public Library and sculpted several public monuments in Cleveland. He also helped design buildings in and around the area. Coltman also worked in Provincetown, Massachusetts and is also considered a member of the Provincetown school of painters. a member of the Cleveland Society of Artists and Cleveland Printmakers.
