      Eben Farrington Comins (American,1875-1949) fresco painting on plaster over board / panel depicting an art deco lady. Signed in a stylized monogram "EFC" in between the date 1931 "19[EFC]31". Exhibited in the Corcoran Gallery of Art (was an art museum in Washington, D.C., United States, that is now the location of the Corcoran School of the Arts and Design, a part of the George Washington University) in the Comins' one man show "Frescoes by Eben F. Comins, March 31–April 22, 1931" exhibition. Stretcher is bordered in metal, possibly to create the recess in which plaster was applied to the board, to form the base to which the pigments were applied to. Artist and exhibition details inscribed in pen to stretcher, including a later "DO NOT TOUCH WITH WATER" in marker. Work measures 24" H x 18" W x 1-1/4" D. 27 photos. Frame 29-1/2" H x 23-1/4" W x 1-3/4" D + 3/4" protruding painting stretcher.       Eben Comins (American, 1875-1949), Landscape with Sand Dunes oil on canvas, signed and illegibly dated at lower right, indistinct inscription at lower left, presented in a period gilt frame, the canvas with Hardy-Alan of Paris stencil to verso. Stretcher size 19 1/2 x 29 in.; Frame dimensions 23 3/4 x 33 in. Eben Comins was a Boston-native artist who had an adept technical knowledge of painting techniques, and received a gold medal at the Panama Exposition for his contributions to art instruction. He taught in various locations including his Boston studio, at the Saint Paul School of Fine Arts, Saint Paul, Minnesota, Wellesley College, Wellesley, Massachusetts; the Swain School of Design in New Bedford, Connecticut; and operated an art school in Washington, DC before his death in Falls Church, VA on April 13, 1949.
