A figural landscape,evoking art nouveau and art deco style, depicting two elegantly dressed female figures in bonnets, standing in a primeval forest setting, with flowers and ribbons. Signed lower right. Presented in an antique wood frame. Old gallery label on verso. Work Size: 18 x 23 in. Dimensions: 23 X 28 X 1 in. Condition: Fair overall condition with heavy age toning, foxing, water staining and surface wear. With average storage wear to frame. Estate fresh to the market.       Conant, Homer (American, 1887-1927). Gouache watercolor painting on artist board. "Theatre Magazine Illustration Cover Art of Masquerade Costume Ball." Signed lower right "Homer Conant." Image size 18 inches x 15 inches. Frame measures 23 inches x 18 inches. Painting depicts costumed woman with elaborate headdress, possibly masquerading as Marie Antoinette. Homer was a world-traveled, world-renowned artist who designed costumes and sets for the Shubert Theater Company in NYC during the early 1920's. Painting includes a copy of the original January 1923 Theatre Magazine for which this illustration painting was commissioned and featured on the cover. Cover design by Homer Conant is credited on the table of contents page. Painting came from the same Shelter Island, NY artist estate as the other Theatre magazine illustration cover art being offered.
