FELIX DE LA CONCHA (León, 1962) "Día de autos", 2021-2022. Acrylic on canvas. This piece belongs to the Kimono Joya collection. Dated. Measurements: 38 x 39 cm; 53 x 53 cm (frame). This work belongs to the exhibition project entitled "treasures on silk. Oriental daydreams", created by Fumiko Negishi and Carlos Muñiz. The project not only comprised an exhibition of 30 Haoris intervened by various artists from the international contemporary art scene, but was accompanied by a set of 10 Tanka poems by Junko Okawara, objects of Wabi Sabi philosophy and action painting. In the creation of this collection, the inspiration of the exhibition entitled "Kimono Joya, Wabi Sabi the beauty of imperfection" has been fundamental. This exhibition was created on the basis of an artistic project of national and international recognition: Kimono -joya; which after having been exhibited in several cities in Spain and Japan, was presented in the Matadero hall in Madrid in 2023. Each of the artists created their artistic design based on the traditional Japanese garment known as Haori. Each of the works presents a reduced T-shaped format, following the idea of idealising the miniature, a concept that harmonises with oriental philosophy. The material itself transports the viewer to the trade routes between East and West and to the natural exchange that is the basis for the enrichment of a profound knowledge. The Haori, as a cultural identity, has been intervened by each artist in a personal way and serves in this case as a catalyst for this exchange and a canvas for the personal vision of each of the artists who have participated in this project. Due to his Cantabrian roots on his father's side, in the early years of his career he concentrated his attention on the landscapes of Santander. These paintings do not recreate traditional bucolic aspects, but deal with prosaic subjects: light transformers, silos, regional roads, cemeteries... although they recreate an atmosphere of mysterious solitude. After several individual exhibitions in Madrid, he received a grant from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to paint at the Spanish Academy in Rome. After his first work was characterised by the absence of the bucolic, in Rome he faced the challenge of living in a place where any motif is loaded with anecdote and history. It was then that he began to explore in depth a concept that would remain relevant to the present day, that of time, which he would develop in many different ways: both through serial works and polyptychs, and in the execution of the work from the concept of alla prima painting. At the end of his scholarship period he extended his residence in Rome for four more years and during this period he created several serial works, such as Nine Months in Donna Olimpia, The Cypress Tree in the Circus Maximus and A Walk in Doria Pamphili. In 1995 he moved to the United States.
