        Jan. 29, 2022

Comes, Carmelo (Catania 1905-Catania 1988) - Sketch for altarpiece "Ascent of Jesus to Mount Calvary"

Oil on the table Signed and dated 1953 lower left. & nbsp; Carmelo Comes, pupil of Nitto Condorelli (Catania, 1878 - Catania, 1950) and in Naples by Michele Cammarano (Naples, 1835 - Naples, 1920 ), from a social painting passes to landscape painting and portraiture. Valuable painter, he participates in the VII and IX quadrennial of Rome and in the Venice Biennale of '50 and '56. Never having moved from the Etna area has relegated him to a local provincialism, although the painter with his works was present in all the houses in Catania. It should be re-evaluated to a broader consideration. ASORstudio
