Note This cup was purportedly found in England in the 1970s, having a probability of being imported into England upon its creation in Boston. It was then sold at auction in the United States, although it is unclear whether this sale occurred prior to being part of the Wunsch Collection.

(H: 5 in. L: 7 in. (including handles) Dia: 4 in. (diameter of bowl), Weight: 11.67 oz. t.) Provenance Jonathan Trace, Portsmouth, New Hampshire, August 17, 2014 A private New Jersey collection. Literature Kane, Patricia E., Colonial Massachusetts Silversmiths and Jewelers, New Haven: Yale University Art Gallery, 1998, p. 322. Footnote: Note William Browne (1608-1687/88) emigrated from England to Salem, Massachusetts in 1635. He was both a merchant and county court judge, and involved himself in other local causes, such as funding Harvard College. Married twice, to Mary Young (d. 1638) and Sarah Smith (d. 1668), he fathered eleven children. Based on the engraved inscription, it is believed that William donated the beaker to his parish shortly before or upon his death.

        Set on a circular reeded foot, with bulbous lower body and cylindrical neck, with s-scrolled spout. Cast Handle has beaded rattail on outer edge. Fitted with the stepped, domed cover & button finial. Mark of John Coney, Boston, on base, rim & lid. Inscribed A. Brimmer 1820 and initialed GSE. A similar example can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston Accession #199.687.
