        THE BEATLES

        Est: $200 - $300

Paul Francis Conrad (1924-2010) was an American political cartoonist and winner of three Pulitzer Prizes for editorial cartooning. In the span of a career lasting five decades, Conrad provided a critical perspective on eleven presidential administrations in the United States. He is best known for his work as the chief editorial cartoonist for the Los Angeles Times. This 15” x 13” cartoon titled “Oh Yeah ... Oh Yeah ... Oh Yeah” depicts band musicians in an all out fight with each other. This appears to be a parody on the 1964 Presidential Campaign between Lyndon Johnson/Hubert Humprey and Barry Goldwater/William Miller. Along with the caption, this is clearly a take off on The Beatles and their recent hit "She Loves You, Yeah, Yeah, Yeah". Conrad signs above the Los Angeles Times registeration. The Beatles played in the Hollywood Bowl August 1964. The Republican Party Convention was also in California in August 1964.

Original Political Cartoon Artboard signed by the Political Cartoonist. Paul Francis Conrad (1924-2010) was an American political cartoonist and winner of three Pulitzer Prizes for editorial cartooning. In the span of a career lasting five decades, Conrad provided a critical perspective on eleven presidential administrations in the United States. Political cartoon art titled "If Ah 'Wasn't A Man of the Cloth Myself ...!'" shows wooden barricades named SEMA separating a Klansman from several clergymen. VG, 14-1/2" x 19-1/2". On March 9, 1965, several local whites attacked James Reeb, a white Unitarian minister who had come from Massachusetts to join the protest. His death two days later contributed to the rising national concern over the situation in Alabama. It is possible that this is what the artist was referencing.
