        Dec. 17, 2022

Robert Conrad "James West" Signature Costume Ensemble and Hat from The Wild Wild

        Est: $32,000 - $48,000

Robert Conrad "James West" Signature Costume Ensemble and Hat from  The Wild Wild West  (CBS TV, 1965-1969).  Vintage original (6) piece bespoke signature character ensemble including (1) Bolero-cut, blue wool jacket with shawl lapel, 2-hip welt pockets, and hook and eye front closure with false button ornamentation. This jacket is customized to facilitate 1800's Secret Service agent "James West's" (Robert Conrad) most memorable gadgets, including a hidden strap at the interior back collar for concealing a weapon, a pocket hidden under the left lapel for a lock pick, and a split, snap-closed right sleeve fashioned to accommodate his automated gun contraption, that would telescope from the sleeve dispensing a Derringer pistol. Also retains the interior Western Costume bias label typed "Bob Conrad" and production information as well as an American Costume ink stamp on the interior slate satin lining, (1) pair of matching wool high-waisted pants with, stirrups at the cuffs, and zipper and hook and eye front closure, retaining the Western Costume bias label typed "Bob Conrad" and production information, (1) blue and teal, silk front vest with short shawl collar, 2-hip welt pockets, and spiral brass button front closure, retaining the Western Costume bias label typed "Bob Conrad" and production information, as well as an American Costume ink stamp on the interior slate cotton lining, (1) Mattsons Hollywood brand powder blue, long sleeved dress shirt with short collar and plastic ivory button front closure, (1) patterned purple silk ascot with elastic neck strap with hook and eye back closure, and (1) black felt Gambler-style signature cowboy hat with leather and stamped metal hatband and belt tip, with interior handwritten in white ink "Robert Conrad." Conceived as a sort of "James Bond" on horseback, Western series, the wildly popular show followed the handsome and skilled agent "West" (Conrad), and "Artemus Gordon" (Ross Martin), gadgeteer and master of disguise on their mission to protect President Ulysses S. Grant from sinister threats. This instantly recognizable suit was one of those worn in multiple episodes until the show was cancelled in its 4th season as a concession to Congress in response to the trend of the day, against TV violence. This is the most complete and FX-rigged version of a West costume we've ever handled. Exhibiting age, production wear, some studio distress and mild fading to areas of the jacket. In vintage Very Good to Fine condition. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. HID01801242017
