Note Louis Joseph Convers, sculpteur et médailleur français, est né le 4 septembre 1860 à Paris. Élève d’Aimé Millet, Jules Cavelier et Félix-Joseph Barrias à l’École des Beaux-Arts de Paris, il est lauréat du prix de Rome de sculpture en 1888. Il obtient une médaille d’or à l’Exposition Universelle de 1900 pour quatre de ses sculptures en marbre : L’Enigme, La Légende, La Justice et Salomé. Cette représentation d’une scène du Nouveau Testament, évoque la « décollation » ou décapitation de Jean-Baptiste qui a dénoncé l’union d’Hérode Antipas avec Heriodade : la femme de son frère. Salomé demande à ce qu’on lui remette sur un plateau la tête du délateur de sa mère. Dans cette représentation et contrairement à la version exposée au Grand Palais en 1900, la tête n’est pas représentée, mais le plat repose à ses pieds.

        Louis J Convers (1860-1915, France) bronze sculpture depicting "Justice", a noble female figure wearing a long heavy robe, seated in an armchair holding a scepter and balance scale on her right side. Signed on the side "Louis-Convers" and signed with Thiebaut, Paris foundry mark "Fumiere, Thiebaut Fres, Paris, Cie Suc'rs". Excellent medium dark brown patina, in very good condition with no damage or repairs. 24.5 in. high x 17 in. wide x 13.5 in. deep. Weight: 88.25 lbs.

The French were among the earliest in modern warfare to use homing pigeons, having used them with great success in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870-1.
