    May Louise Greville Cooksey, British 1878-1943- view from a cloister; watercolour, signed and dated July '02, 24.5x34.5cm: together with one further watercolour by the same hand depicting figures walking in a village street, signed and dated '99, 14.5x28cm note: May Louise Greville Cooksey was an ecclesiastical artist as well as a landscape & figure painter and etcher. She was born in Birmingham but spent most of her life in Liverpool. She studied at Leamington and Liverpool School of Art where she was awarded several silver and gold medals. She was also given a traveling scholarship to Italy. For some time she was also the Art Mistress at South Kensington. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, Glasgow Institute of Fine Art and Walker Art Gallery in Liverpool.

Received a travelling scholarship which enabled her to visit Italy. Exhibited at the Royal Academy and extensively at the Walker Gallery. Was a member of the Liverpool Academy of Arts.
