Cooper began his art education in junior college studying under Jim Smythe who was classically trained at the Ecole Des Beaux Arts in Paris. Later, he acquired a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree at Art Center College of Design where he had the good fortune to study with Dan McCaw, Craig Nelson and John Asaro who especially nurtured Cooper's love of painting.After graduating, he worked as an illustrator for the next ten years doing comprehensive sketches for ad agencies and with motion picture studio clients including Universal, Warner Bros. and New World Pictures.Since 1990, he has worked at Walt Disney Feature Animation in various capacities from background painter to art director on such films as Aladdin, Lion King, Tarzan, and Fantasia 2000.Cooper feels that his work had been influenced most recently by artists Mark Daily and Ray Roberts. Cooper has taught painting at Associates in Art, the California Art Institute and at California State University Northridge, and has found teaching to be greatly fulfilling. He was fortunate enough to live in France for a period of time to train the French background painters on the Mickey Mouse short, Runaway Brain.Daniel E. Cooper is an Artist Member of the California Art Club.
