One of the most influential ceramicists of the 19th century, artist Susie Cooper continually set trends throughout her life and career. Born in 1902, she took an early interest in art, eventually earning scholarships at the Burslem School of Art and the Royal College of Art in London. From there, she worked with A.E. Gray from 1922 to 1929, quickly moving up from production line painter to art director.

Ceramic artist Susie Cooper established her own company in 1929, and despite a difficult worldwide economic era, demand for her ceramic art grew. Her work was marked by floral patterns, bold colors, intricate geometric shapes, and her most well-known pattern called Dresden Spray.
