Rechts mittig auf Steinplatte signiert „Alex Coosemans f.“ Vor braunem Hintergrund eine unebene Steinplatte, auf der sorgsam arrangiert zu finden sind: Helle und blaue Weintraubenrispen, samtig weiche Pfirsiche, einige Walnüsse, eine leicht geöffnete Feige, eine Melone, kleine Äste mit Pflaumen und zwei Maiskolben. Auf einer weiteren, rechtsseitig befindlichen höheren kleineren Steinplatte zudem ein mit Wein gefülltes glänzendes Römerglas und zwei Apfelsinen mit einem kleinen aufgeschnittenen Stück. FRÜCHTESTILLLEBEN MIT TRAUBEN, FEIGEN, MELONE, PFIRSICHEN UND ZITRONE AUF EINER ZINNSCHALE Öl auf Holz. Parkettiert. 36 x 52 cm. Beigegeben eine Expertise von Dr. Jaco Rutgers, Tilburg vom 09. September 2020, mit weiteren Vergleichsangaben, in Kopie. Der Maler wurde insbesondere bekannt durch seine üppig drapierten, hervorragend gestalteten Frucht- und Vanitasstillleben, in denen er stets eine feurige Farbpalette zur Geltung bringt. Auch im vorliegenden Gemälde leuchten die rot-gelben Pfirsiche oder das Gelb der Zitrone, mit bandartig geschnittener Schale, auf glänzender Platte vor dem Hintergrund dunkler und heller Trauben hervor. Das Stillleben ist nahezu symmetrisch konzipiert, wobei die Pfirsischgruppe auf dem Teller die Mitte einnimmt, während die dahinter hochgetürmten Trauben, mit den weiteren Früchten seitlich, nahezu hügelig angeordnet sind, überfangen vom Blattwerk der Reben mit grünen und leicht bräunlich verfärbten Blätern. Im unteren Teil werden die Farben beruhigt wiedergegeben, in Art eines moosgrünen Samttuchs über der Holzplatte. Ebenso neutralfarbig ist der bräunliche Hintergrund gehalten. Das Gemälde entspricht ganz den weiteren bekannten Werken des Malers, wobei einige Details auch in anderen Stillleben wiederzufinden sind. Somit zählt das Werk zu den Leistungen der Hauptperiode des Meisters. STILLLEBEN MIT FRÜCHTEN UND AUSTERN Öl auf Leinwand. Doubliert. 56 x 96 cm. Verso auf Rahmen Aufkleber, der auf Jan Davidsz de Heem (1606-1683/84) verweist. In dekorativem Rahmen. Beigegeben ein Gutachten von Liliane Huillet, 24. Januar 2023. Vor dunklem Hintergrund, auf einer großen hölzernen Platte, die größtenteils mit einem olivgrünen herabhängenden Tuch bedeckt ist, die sorgsam arrangierten Gegenstände: Linksseitig eine große flache, silberglänzende Schale mit mehreren roten und hellen Weintraubenrispen, deren Blätter leicht nach oben ragen, daneben auf einem weißen Tuch eine kleinere Schale mit geöffneten Austern, daneben zwei Zitronen mit einzelnen Scheiben, eine Melone und am rechten Rand schließlich eine abschließbare blaue Schachtel, auf der ein weiterer Teller mit roten leuchtenden Früchten steht. Über der Austernschale ist zudem noch ein kleiner Zweig mit glänzenden Kirschen erkennbar. Darstellung mit gekonnter Lichtinszenierung, bei der einzelne Früchte besonders hervorgehoben werden. Work: 51,5 x 37 cm Frame: 69 x 54 cm The authorship of of Alexander Coosemans was confirmed in writing by Dr. Jaco Rutgers on September 9, 2020 (the document is part of the lot). Still life with green and blue grapes, figs, peaches, a tangerine, a melon and a pewter plate with apricots and a half-peeled lemon, on a partially draped wooden lede. "This magnificent fruit stilllife clearly shows Alexander Coosemans' great abilities as a painter. As an independent master from 1645 onwards, he specialised in the depiction of fruits. In his colourful and lavish displays, the influence of his master Jan davidsz. de Heem is never far away. The virtual absence of dated paintings by his hand makes a chronology of his oeuvre extremely difficult and speculative, although it is generally assumed that he was at the height of his potential in the 60s of the seventeenth century. Typical for his work are the crowded compositions in bright, sparkling colours, with prominently placed grapes that show a glass-like reflection, bright yellow lemons, and glittering pewter, all bathing in full, shiny day light. In many respects, the prsent still life is a characteristic work for Alexander Coosemans. As in many other compositions by Coosemans, the grapes here, especially the white ones, figure prominently. They generally are very round and light up brightly due to the inclusion of a yellow accent on the lower side and a white highlight in the centre. They do compare very well with those in many other pictures by the master, for instance inthe signed 'Still-life with fruits, a silver tazza and a pewter plate on a partially draped wooden ledge' in a private collection and another signed one, 'Still-life with fruits on a pewter plate with a roemer, a golden goblet, an earthenware jug and a meatl box on a partially draped wooden table' in the Museum Mayer van den Bergh (inv. MMB.0094). In all those works, the grapes apper very finely painted from a distance, although, in fact, they were done with rather bold but accurate brushstrokes. A striking feature in the present still-life is the melon in left background from which a smaal part is cut away. The contrasting orange of the inside and the bright green of the outside together offer a welcome colour accent in this composition, as it does in others by Coosemans, such as the signed 'Still-life with fruits, asparagus, a flask, a basket and two pewter plates on a partially draped wooden table' in the Museo Provincial de Bellas Artes in Granada (inv. DE 037). Moreover, the peel of the lemon in our picture is depicted in very thickly applied oil paint leaving it as a relief on the painted surface. It is obviously by the same hand as, for instance, the partly peeled lemon in 'Still-life with fruits, oysters and a lobster on a forest ground' in the Szepmuveszeti Museum in Budapest (inv. 51.2978). A firm chronoloy of Cooseman's oeuvre is almost impossible becase so few paintings carry a date. Our 'Still-life with green and blue grapes, figs, peaches, a tangerine, a melon and a pewter plate with apricots and a half peeled lemon, on a partially draped wooden ledge' can nevertheless tentatively be put in the 1660s. It compares favourably to a picture which seems indistinctly dated '166(4?)', 'Still-life with fruits, oysters, a roemer, a porcelain bowl and a pewter plate on partially draped wood table' in a private collection.The brick back wall looks very similarly done and so do especially the wrinkly leaves in the upper part of the composition. So it is likely that our still-life by Alexander Coosemans was made when the artist was at the height of his powers."

Antwerp painter of still lifes of flowers, fruits and game but also of Vanities, he became in 1641 the pupil of Davidszoon de Heem, the most famous Dutch painter at the time for still lifes. Master of the Guild of Saint Luke in 1645, he left shortly after for Italy where he worked on orders for the Palazzo Doria-Pamphili-Landi, on the one hand in Rome at the Palazzo Doria Pamphili, in Genoa on the other. leaves at the Palazzo del Principe, also called "Villa di Andrea Doria. Coosemans returned to Antwerp in 1651 and remained there until the end of his life. He painted far more varied still lifes than his master de Heem, preferring dramatic light effects in artificial settings. His stay in Italy will greatly influence his style.

Peintre anversois de natures mortes de fleurs, de fruits et de gibier mais également de Vanités, il devient en 1641 l'élève de Davidszoon de Heem peintre hollandais le plus réputé à l'époque pour les natures mortes. Maître de la Guilde de Saint-Luc en 1645, il part peu après pour l'Italie où il travaille sur des commandes pour les Palazzo Doria-Pamphili-Landi, d'une part à Rome au Palazzo Doria Pamphili, à Gênes d'autre part au Palazzo del Principe, également appelé "Villa di Andrea Doria. Coosemans sera de retour à Anvers en 1651 et y restera jusqu'à la fin de ses jours. Il peint des natures mortes bien plus variées que son maître de Heem, préférant les effets de lumière dramatiques dans des décors artificiels. Son séjour en Italie l'influencera grandement dans son style.

Vor dunkelgrauem Hintergrund, auf einer braunen hölzernen Tischplatte mit zur Seite gezogener, in Falten liegender dunklergrüner Tischdecke, die sorgsam arrangierten Früchte und Meeresfrüchte. Darauf ein großer Zweig mit hellen und dunkleren Trauben und entsprechenden Blättern, eine erhöhte silberne Schale mit geöffneten Austern, eine aufgeschnittene und halb geschälte Zitrone, ein blau-weißer Fayenceteller, der auf einem Hummer liegt, ein mit Rotwein gefülltes Glas und schließlich eine große Silberschale, auf der ein prachtvoller rotleuchtender Hummer liegt, dessen große Scheren über den Tischrand reichen. Das Licht fällt von oben links auf die dargestellten Objekte und setzt gekonnt Glanzlichter auf die Austern, den Hummer und die silbernen Schalen sowie auf das Glas. Ausgewogene Komposition, bei der eine Diagonale von der rechten Schere des Hummers über den Teller bis hin zum Rand des Weinglases zu laufen scheint. Vor dem dunkel gehaltenen Hintergrund kommt besonders das leuchtende Rot der Hummer und die hell glänzenden Austern sowie die Zitrone zur Geltung. Coosemans' en bas à gauche 'STILL LIFE WITH A BASKET OF FRUITS AND A LOBSTER', OIL ON CANVAS, SIGNED, BY ALEXANDER COOSEMANS h: 56 w: 81 cm Provenance : Galerie De Jonckheere, Paris, Printemps 1993, n° 65 ; Acquis auprès de celle-ci par l'actuel propriétaire en 1994 ; Collection particulière, Paris Commentaire : Alexander Coosemans est signalé à Anvers en 1641-42 dans la corporation de Saint-Luc en qualité d'apprenti de Jan Davidz. de Heem. Reçu maître en 1645-46 dans la même corporation il exercera sa carrière de peintre dans cette ville jusqu'à sa mort en 1669. Notre toile se distingue par l'équilibre de la composition et la merveilleuse distribution d'une palette rayonnante. La lumière chatoyante qui inonde notre tableau illustre l'influence de son séjour à Rome entre 1649 et 1651. La brillance du pichet en faïence de Delft au décor persan structure cette table richement garnie sur laquelle la miche de pain, le raisin et le pichet ne sont pas sans rappeler la Cène et la Passion du Christ. La représentation du homard a une signification parallèle : par le phénomène du changement de sa carapace à la fin d'une saison, il se transforme dans le cadre d'une nouvelle étape de sa vie. Il symbolise ainsi dans les natures mortes la Résurrection du Christ. Le citron à l'écorce déroulée prolonge le discours de l'artiste sur le déroulement de la vie et donc de sa fragilité.
