b. 1968 -

Steph.Cop was born in 1968 in France, and he grew up in Paris. During his formative years, he was involved in the graffiti art movement, becoming one of the most prominent figures of street art movement, not only in France, but worldwide. He collaborated with a number of other prominent street artists, such as Cope2. However, in 2000, Steph.Cop decided to leave the street and move into a studio, where he began translating his two-dimensional images into three-dimensional figures. He also engaged in the world of Designer Toys. In 2000, Steph.Cop produced a series of five figures, titled Imaginary Friends. These figures become a basis for his famous AROs – the name of the sculptures he makes. If someone aims to understand the concept of ARO (which stands for Obsessive Reflex Analysis), it’s crucial to know the process of creation of Steph.Cop’s art. The artist turns to nature in search of inspiration – more precisely, he turns to the Morvan forest. He uses chainsaw as his primary tool, and the result is a beautiful Wooden ARO sculpture.

Replacing Parisian streets with the Morvan forest, Steph.Cop began making his ARO sculptures. He carves his pieces in trees full of history, and plays with the imperfections in the wood to give life to majestic forms. It is the forest and woods that inspire Steph.Cop. As the artist says: "I find myself in this place I love. With the Morvan forest. I settled down with wood. I look for damaged trees, dead, lost. I search in the forest. This is an important time. You must observe, walk, be sensitive to the nature." For the exhibition Asymmetria, the artist created fifteen volumes available in two distinct series - the ARO Copelini and the new exclusive series called ARO Asymmetria. Copelini is the sculpted avatar and it is the original ARO - Copelini is the portrait of one form of life (tree). The deconstruction of ARO, conducted with precise mathematical proficiency results in Aro Asymmetria.
