Hans Coper Art for Sale at Auction

b. 1920 - d. 1981

British artist Hans Coper was born in Germany in 1920, and he studied engineering there before moving to Britain in 1939. Inspired by Lucie Rie, his employer for 13 years, Hans Coper's ceramics showcased both sculptural and figural aspects. In 1959, he became a legal citizen of Britain, and the next year he set up a studio in Hertfordshire.

Artist Hans Coper was selected by the Victoria and Albert Museum to be the first living potter to have a solo exhibition in 1969. From 1963 to 1975, he split his time teaching at Camberwell School of Art and the Royal College of Art. His distinct European style made him a well-known potter, and original Hans Coper pottery for sale is still highly sought after.
