      This is a beautiful portrait of Lilly Lawrence by Ralph Wolfe Cowan, an American portrait artist who painted numerous monarchs and heads of state during his lifetime. Lilly Lawrence, also known as "Princess Lilly", was the daughter of an Iranian oil minister who worked under the Shah of Iran, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, before his overthrow in 1979. She was a socialite and philanthropist. Her home in Malibu, the Castle Kashan, burned down in 1993 and many paintings were lost. Cowan was born in Virginia, was a paratrooper in the army, and moved to West Palm Beach afterwards. He had a close relationship with the Royal family of Monaco and painted Princess Grace in 1956, and he was known for painting royalty. The portrait here is signed in the lower left and has a Florida label with the artist's name and West Palm Beach address on the back. The overall size is 34 x 30 in. wide and the sight size is 23 1/2 x 19 1/2 in. wide.
