Guido Crepax - Ciao Valentina, 1966

          Est: €7,000 - €9,000

pencil and ink on cardboard Original comic art created by Crepax for the page 28 of "Ciao Valentina", the adventure of the sensual Valentina published for the first time in Linus' supplement n. 19 in October 1966 and subsequently in the volume "Diario di Valentina" by Milano Libri Edizioni in 1975. In this, the third story of the young Milanese photographer, Valentina is kidnapped and subsequently released due to some photos taken by her which, for purely by chance, they become evidence of a crime. Between Milan, Prague and Paris, Philip Rembrandt and Valentina are from time to time chasers and chased, between the streets of the Golden City and the mysterious villas where the Parisian high society meets hiding under the clothes of comic book heroes. The syncopated rhythm of the events and of the drawings themselves of these first adventures of Valentina make us participants in Crepax's passion for jazz music, which in fact becomes its soundtrack, visual architecture and narrative theme. On this page Crepax pays homage to the world of comics and his direct colleagues by making Philip Rembrandt move around the rooms of a villa where a frenetic comics-themed masquerade ball is taking place. pencil and ink on cardboard Original comic art created by Crepax for the page 14 of "Barbablù", the adventure of the sensual Valentina published for the first time in the volume "Valentina nella stove" by Milano Libri Edizioni in 1973. In this story, which is to all intents and purposes the continuation of the previous "Baba Yaga", are condensed all the narrative and aesthetic peculiarities of Crepax's art: there is the dream world, the psychoanalytic one, the animals, the period objects, the magic and the rationalism that fights it but remains enchanted by it, there is the fairy tale and there is the complex relationship of Crepax himself and his Valentina with the feminist movement. With this short story of only 10 pages Crepax decides to give his Valentina a past, and to tell his readers the origins of her character and of its independence; in this brief and poetic parenthesis inspired by "The Intrepid Tin Soldier" by Hans Christian Andersen, little Valentina's romantic fantasies are intertwined with a memory linked to the war: the Rossellinis are Jews, and must emigrate to Switzerland to save themselves . Guido Crepax - Conte Dracula, 1983

          Est: €5,500 - €7,000

pencil and ink on cardboard Original comic art created by Crepax for the page 73 of "Conte Dracula", transposition of Bram Stoker's classic published for the first time in volume by Milano Libri in 1987. The page we presented was published on the back cover of the volume "Dracula: The seduction of the vampire" at interior of the Erotica series n. 9 from Mondadori in 2015. Breaking away from all filmic visual imagery, Crepax returns to its origins, studying, dismantling and reconstructing the Irish writer's text. The result is a fascinating epistolary graphic novel with an almost nineteenth-century drawing style with hatching inspired by the Frenchman Gustave Doré. Crepax brings out the erotic side underlying the work of the late 19th century, taking up the common thread that accompanied him throughout his career. Signed and dated.
