NACHO CRIADO (Mengíbar, 1943 - Madrid, 2010). "Bull and horse", 1968. Welded iron sculpture. Provenance: Buades Gallery, Madrid. Work referenced in: "Abstracción Andaluza, 1957-1982", "Tu t'y es mis un peu tard", text by Fernando Castro Flores in the catalogue of the exhibition by Nacho Criado, Agentes colaboradores CAAC. Las Palmas de Gran Canarias, 2012 and MNCARS, Madrid, 2013, p.85. Size: 35 x 31 x 11 cm. Iron sculpture with a rounded, synthetic and volumetric finish due to the fact that the artist has used an aesthetic in which form and its exercise predominate over detail. Known for his great experimental work, Nacho Criado was a creator known especially for his sculptural work. Of Andalusian origin, he began his artistic training in the city of Madrid, where he studied architecture while working in the workshop of the sculptor Jesús Trapero, although he later moved to Barcelona, where he began to study social sciences. In 1969 he returned to Madrid, where he began his career as an artist, opting for minimalism, which in later decades led to works close to conceptual art, arte póvera and land art. In 1970 he held his first solo exhibition entitled "Homenje a Rothko", at the Sen gallery. Throughout his career he held numerous exhibitions in important art centres such as the MNCARS, the CGAC, the IVAM, the Universal Exhibition in Seville (1992), Expo 2000 in Hannover, and the Venice Biennale. In addition, throughout his career he has been awarded on numerous occasions with important prizes such as the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts in 2008 and the Spanish National Prize for Plastic Arts in 2009.
