Mary Crocker Fassett, an accomplished artist,. Her father, Truman Edmund Fassett, himself an artist, trained her as a painter, and she continued her training at Sarah Lawrence College in New York.

Her artistic style was inspired by the great Renaissance painters of Europe. Her abundant work ranged from vivid portraits to imaginative scenes reminiscent of the work of Hieronymus Bosch and Pieter Bruegel.
