      Est: $2,000 - $4,000

WILLIAM CROVELLO, (AMERICAN, 1929-2021) 'CUBED CURVE' ABSTRACT MARBLE SCULPTURE, 1971 signed and dated "Crovello, 71", on a cast stone base Note: Born in New York in 1929, Crovello studied painting at the Rhode Island School of Design from 1947 to 1951 as well as the Art Students League and Columbia University. In the 1950s, he spent time in Japan where he gained an appreciation for calligraphy. This work of art is said to have been inspired by the motion of making a brushstroke. Cubed Curve is a seminal example of the artist's skill in silhouetting open and closed spaces in three-dimensional form. His monumental "Cubed Curve", a 3,500 pound steel statue created in 1972 was once a landmark in New York City, where it adorned the plaza of the Time-Life Building at West 50th Street and Sixth Avenue (the Avenue of the Americas) in New York. In 2018, it was moved and donated by the Rockefeller Group to the Berman Museum of Art, at Ursinus College near Philadephia.
