PIP CULBERT (1938-2016) Notable for her fabric works, Pip Culbert creates minimal line drawings made from the seams of deconstructed clothing. The artist discards the bulk of a pants pocket or a shirt, and draws the pattern's outlines in her minimal compositions, breaking these objects down to their essential forms. Pip Culbert was born in Newcastle upon Tyne in 1938 and attended the Royal College of Art in London, where she graduated in 1961. Culbert has been exhibited at the Museum of New Zealand, Te Papa; Fifth Street Gallery, London; Fouladi Projects, San Francisco; and Christchurch Art Gallery, New Zealand, among others.
