Graduating from the Sydney Art Institute, he received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in 1986 and later earned the Graduate Diploma in Professional Art Studies. In 1999, Cullen earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of New South Wales. His exhibition Adam Cullen Let's Get Lost was held in 2008, and it was well received by captivated spectators.
