Vera Cunningham, British 1897-1955 - Designs for Charlotte's Progress, c.1932; ink and wash on paper, 45.5 x 35.4 cm: together with two other works on paper by the same artist, of a similar size and smaller (unframed) (3) (ARR) Note: 'Charlotte's Progress', with texts by Douglas Garman and with a foreword by Ashley Dukes, was published in 1932 and was a satirical narrative of an inter-war party girl Charlotte. Cunningham was inspired by the great British satirist Hogarth in her illustrations. The artist was involved with Bernard Meninsky and Matthew Smith in the 1920s, and had her first exhibition at the Bloomsbury Group in 1929. A retrospective of her work was held at the Barbican in 1985.
