  • Tacita Dean CBE RA,  Valencian Trackwalker;

    The Green Ray (for Parkett 62)

    Est: €300 - €500

    DEAN, TACITA 1965 Canterbury Title: The Green Ray (for Parkett 62). Date: 2001. Technique: Postcard from Madagascar on card. In transparent cover in envelope. Depiction Size: 10,5 x 15cm. Notation: Signed, dated and numbered (verso). Publisher: Parkett-Verlag, Zurich (publisher). Number: 1/100. Condition: Slight traces of usage inherent to the work. The work is in very good condition. Each copy of the edition was sent by the artist to the Parkett-Verlag from Morombe, Madagascar. With Parkett magazine. "When asked, 'What is the relation between sound and image in your work?' Dean answered, 'My interest resides in this gap between the sound and the image. I require sound to have its own autonomy.' Thus, in opposition to an approach to cinema in which the viewer experiences a sense of identification with the spectacle, Dean creates a mode of apprehension in which the observer feels at odds with what she sees. (.) The slightly disjointed relationship between the sound and image, compounded by the clearly physical presence of the projector creates caesurae, which force the beholder to return to real-time, lived bodily experience rather than that of the cinematic." Paula Carabell, Parkett no. 62, 2001. Article on the work and artist from Parkett edition no. 62. Explanations to the Catalogue

    Tacita DEAN (née en 1965) YELLOW CAR, (DIPTYCH), 2001 Digital Epson print numéroté "6/10" 39 x 116 cm (chaque) Provenance : Marian Goodman Gallery, Paris Collection Michèle et Thierry Colin, Reims Bibliographie : Tacita Dean, FLOH, Steidl Publications, signed limited edition of 4000, reproduit en couleurs, non paginé Commentaire : "Le fait que nous soyons capables de supprimer une image au moment même où nous la prenons est une chose incroyable. C'est quelque chose de presque totalitaire : j'y vois la marque de cette société dans laquelle nous vivons, qui tente de se débarrasser de tout ce qui ne fonctionne pas ou qui ne correspond pas aux standards établis. À bien y réfléchir, c'est quelque chose qui m'horrifie profondément." Tacita Dean Poursuivant la réflexion sur l'archive qu'elle a initiée depuis le début des années 90, Tacita Dean se tourne, en 2001, vers un matériau désormais en voie de disparition : des tirages photographiques mis au rebut par leurs propriétaires sur les étals des marchés aux puces. Dans un geste qui rappelle la poétique de l'objet trouvé surréaliste, Tacita Dean rassemble, re-photographie et expose ces clichés de second rang qui, à l'ère du numérique, n'auraient certainement pas vus le jour. La série Floh (de Flohmarkt, « marché aux puces » en allemand), qui donne lieu à la publication d'un livre d'artiste, se présente comme un monument élevé à la mémoire de ces footages souvent mal cadrés, flous ou trop anodins pour avoir été conservés. Sans rien expliquer ni légender, fidèle au silence dans lequel baignaient ces images lorsqu'elle les a trouvées, Tacita Dean leur confère une nouvelle existence et exploite le potentiel narratif latent dont chacune d'entre elles est porteuse – à charge pour le spectateur de construire sa propre histoire à partir de leur opacité, d'imaginer ce qu'elles lui racontent de la vie de ces hommes et de ces femmes inconnus – et peut-être aussi un peu de la sienne.
