Charles Demetropoulos was born in Lowell, MA in 1912 and died while residing at the Fenway Studios on Ipswich Street in Boston, MA in 1976. While attending the Bartlett School — grades 1 through 9 — in the Acre section of Lowell, young Charles was encouraged by his art teacher, Miss Helene Abels, to further develop his talent. After finishing his studies at Lowell High School, with Miss Abels advice and support, he went on to the Massachusetts College of Art where he subsequently taught for many years. He also attended Cranbrook Academy in Bloomfield Hills, MI. Known as "Mr. Copley Square", Demetropoulos is mainly remembered for his Boston watercolors depicting garden scenes, churches, trolleys, cars, and trains in and around Copley Square.
