Johanna von Destouches (German 1869-1956), three part standing floor screen incorporating three oil on canvas floral still life panels. The center panel is signed "18 J.v. Destouches 88" in the lower right quadrant. Each panel relates to the abutting panel with the largest cluster of flowers concentrated in the center panel. Destouches repeatedly painted floral still lifes and the execution of these panels portrays her accomplished handling. Each panel is surrounded by a gilt and scrolled frame with scrolled feet at the base. There is some minor damage and early restoration. Each outside panel ss: 58" h., center panel ss: 60 1/2" h., all panels ss: 19" w.

Johanna von Destouches (German 1869-1956)

Nukina Kaioku (Japanese 1778-1863), set of six watercolors on paper, depicting landscapes, each inscribed and bearing seal marks, three matted and framed, three not framed, each approximately 53 1/4" X 21 1/2" each, all laid down on foam core, some stains, foxing, holes and rubbing. Nukina Kaioku was the son of a samurai serving the daimyo of Tokushima. He studied calligraphy and Kano-style painting in Tokushima, Buddhism at Koyasan and Confucianism and Chinese-style painting in Edo, finally establishing his own school on Kyoto. He is most noted as a calligrapher as well as a scholar/literati painting in the Nanga tradition.
