      • Publio de Tommasi,  A seated gentleman examining a picture
        Jul. 19, 2023

Publio de Tommasi,  A seated gentleman examining a picture

        Est: £600 - £800

Publio de Tommasi,  Italian 1849-1914-  A seated gentleman examining a picture;  pencil, watercolour, and bodycolour heightened with touches of gum arabic on paper, signed, inscribed and dated 'P. De. Tommasi / Roma 82.' (lower left), 53 x 35.5 cm.  Provenance:  Private Collection, UK.  Note:  De Tommasi's watercolours often constitute genre scenes populated by figures in Italian regional dress or clerical costume. The present work is unusual for the artist in its representation of a finely-dressed connoisseur, who inspects the picture before him, which is tantalisingly obscured from our view.

        PUBLIO DE TOMMASI

        Est: €1,200 - €1,800
