Eight poster designs, most in Art Nouveau style, were commissioned and printed together at billboard size; following the competition, poster collectors cut up the billboards and kept their favorite design. 33 ½ x 25 5/8”. Linen backed. Repaired tears and losses at edges of image, mainly at bottom edge. B+/B.

Très belle publication Art Nouveau illustrée de gravures imprimées en couleurs à la poupée par Eugène Delatre et rehaussées d'or et d'argent. Chaque péché est introduit par un ornement marginal lui faisant référence : plume de paon pour l'Orgueil, chardon pour la Colère... In-folio (352 x 278 mm). Illustré de 9 eaux-fortes en couleurs, rehaussées d'or et d'argent, par Henry Detouche, dont une pour la couverture et une pour la table, une suite des 9 eaux-fortes en tirage monochrome (non annoncée) et 7 eauxfortes monochromes (répétées) pour les encadrements des textes. Tirage à 175 exemplaires, un des 25 sur papier des manufactures impériales du Japon, celui-ci n° 5. Broché, tel que paru, emboîtage de maroquin orange, premier plat de plexiglas (onglet de renfort au frontispice).

Perhaps she wants to cast a shadow on the wall-a popular parlor pastime of the era" (Gold, p. 130). A sly design from an artist who very rarely ventured into the poster arena. During the course of his career, Detouche tried his hand at just about every decorative challenge that came his way: furniture, crafts, ornamental objects, watercolors, pastels, dry-point etching and lithography, and still found the time to author three books.

24 1/2x16 inches. Chaix, Paris. Condition A-: repaired tear in right margin. Matted and Framed. This is the only poster designed by Detouche, whose renown was as an engraver and watercolorist. Advertising the 22nd exhibition of the Salon des Cent at La Plume, he chooses a hieroglyphic-like profile of a woman whose hands are twisted into a shape evocative of the swans on the wallpaper behind her. The strange conceit is one of the least predictable of the Salon des Cent series. Salon des Cent p. 52, DFP-II. 303, Gold 189.
