    Nov. 26, 2002

    Walter Dexter (b. 1876)

    Est: $27,900 - $38,750

The carpenter's workshop signed and dated 'Walter/Dexter./1904' (lower left) oil on canvas 30 x 25 in. (76.2 x 63.5 cm.) NOTES The Art Record of 1902 records a comparable picture entitled A Workshop, which was bought by the committee of Norwich Castle Museum. Little is known of Dexter, several of whose watercolour sketches of the Norfolk landscape are also in the Norwich Castle Museum. The detail shown in this crowded and exemplary composition is reminiscent of his Northamptonshire contemporary, Spencelayh.
