Mixed Media on paper Switzerland, 2000 Serge Diakonoff (b. 1933) - Russian artist and stage designer Signed and dated upper right 'Diakonoff / 2000' Dimensions, framed: 114 x 83 cm; sheet size: 101 x 71 cm Very good condition Provenance: From a Swiss private collection An expressive work in vibrant colours by the Russian artist; Diakonoff's fantastic-visionary works deal with the human being and his inner conflicts This expressive work on paper from 2000 by Serge Diakonoff shows a muscular male torso in bold colours. The individual muscles are worked out with dark contours and colourful hatching. The drawing shows the artist's typical visionary style of painting, which he uses to create his futuristic and often surreal images. In his paintings Diakonoff investigates the human being, its body and mind. Thus he generates powerful imagery, often inspired by motifs from classical antiquity. The drawing is in a very good condition. It is signed and dated upper right 'Diakonoff / 2000'. The modern frame shows hardly any signs of use. Framed the work measures 114 x 83 cm, the sheet measures 101 x 71 cm. Serge Diakonoff (b. 1933) Serge Diakonoff was born in Geneva in 1933. Here he studied at the University of Art and Design between 1950 and 1954. From the 1950s onwards, he designed numerous stage sets, e.g. for the Théatre des Champs-Elysées and the Opera in Paris. In 1953 he had his first exhibition, since then his work is regularly shown throughout Europe. At first Diakonoff devoted himself to abstract painting, creating mobiles and sculptures. Inspired by the African masks he collected, he created his first 'skin paintings' in the 70s, and thus became a pioneer of body painting. Today Diakonoff mainly works in acrylic and creates collages and sculptures. His works are a dialogue between the consciousness and the unconsciousness, between the past and the future.
