From the Odysseus Project blog: "Stuart Diamond was born in Brooklyn, New York and received his BFA from the Pratt Institute in 1963. He also attended the New York University graduate school in 1967. Stuart has taught at Bennington College, The Rhode Island School of Design and the Parsons School of Design. He is know a professor at MassArt (Massachusetts College of Art and Design). Known as a constructionist artist, Diamond collects pieces of wood, broken toys, perforated boards, wire mesh, fabric, metal, all sorts of cast off objects from the streets and brings them back to his studio. These are the raw materials for Diamond's work, although only a small proportion of them find their way into his constructions. Major awards include: the National Endowment for the Arts (2), the Guggenheim Fellowship and the CAPS grant for painting. major collections include: the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago and the Museum of Modern Art in New York. Stuart Diamond created the diptych Sign of the Times along with Man's Progress at Problem Solving in response to the first Gulf War. He had just become a father to twin boys. The pieces are in part a collecting and sorting of male symbolism. His new paintings resemble civic-minded W.P.A. murals forced through the skeptical sieve of pictorial simultaneity that Sigmar Polke, Julian Schnabel and David Salle made famous in the 1980's."
