GEORGE DICK (American 1916-1978) A PAINTING, "Winter on the Plain," oil on panel, signed L/R. 16" x 20" NOTE: George Dick was a wildlife and Western painter and sculptor, sometimes painting in an Impressionist style. Often, he strove to subdue or eliminate the backgrounds of his work. His favorite subjects included cow ponies, quarter horses, racehorses, game, and wild fowl. After serving in World War Two, he studied at the University of New Mexico with Kenneth Adams and Randall Davey, and earned an MFA in 1950. He was published in the Saturday Evening Post, New Mexico Stockman, Arizona Highways, and on Christmas cards. He exhibited nationally, and is in Hassrick's Western Painting Today and Ainsworth's Cowboys in Art. Source: CONTEMPORARY WESTERN ARTISTS by Peggy and Harold Samuels.
