    Antique Print by Englishman William Dickes of Ulysses S. Grant William Dickes was born in 1815 in England, was a student in the Royal Academy Schools, was recognized in 1851 when he opened up shop in London, then exhibited all over Europe and was awarded prize medals at the Paris Exhibition in 1855 & the London International Exhibition in 1862. He acquired a license to the Baxter Process and produced color prints by Chromograph and Chromolithography. You will find the William Dickes signature lower right of the picture, piece has an antique wood frame and backing, antique wavy glass front. On reverse (see picture) there is old information regarding this picture and President Grant.

    Antique William Dickes Chromolithograph The Horse Tamer. Published London circa 1870. Good condition and color. Some minor discoloration to bottom border. Framed and under glass. Extremely rare. PROVENANCE: A Charleston South Carolina Private Collection. William Dickes (1815-1892) was an English illustrator, engraver, printmaker and lithographer. Dickes collected many awards for the quality of his lithography. Although he started with wood engraving, he moved to and developed new processes in color lithography using copper plates. His work was exhibited at International Exhibitions in London, Dublin and Paris in the 1860s. Measures 29x22.50x1.50. Weight 6 pds 9 oz
