    Large, impressive lithograph, over four sheets Bern, Switzerland, 1857 Johann Rudolf Dill (1808-1875) - Swiss painter and lithograph Panorama view of the Gröner Crest, folded several times Exlibris by 'John Bell Sedgwick' Cardboard binding with imprinted title Dimensions panorama: 23.5 x 220 cm Dimensions binding: 16 x 24.5 cm Good condition Provenance: John Bell Sedgwick, London - Physician and member of the famous London Alpine Club John Bell Sedgwick is a particularly interesting first owner of this copy of the very rare panorama; in 2011, the same view fetched 28,000 Euros, auctioned at Christie's London This lithograph panorama is an exceptional testimonial of the Golden Age of Alpinism. It not only offers a geographically correct view from the Gröner Crest. This overall 2 m long, severally folded panorama view can also impress with a very prominent, previous owner. It was in the procession of the physician John Bell Sedgewick. An exlibris with his name can be found at the back of the binder. By his hand is the entry "Görnergrat,- Friday. August 14th 1857" dated with "Lucerne Aug 31st". This entry might be an indication, that the passionate Alpinist John Bell Sedgwick accompanied the mountain painter Johann Rudolf Dill as he created the drawing for this lithograph. In December of the same year, the famous London Alpine Club was founded. This lithograph on four sheets shows some traces of wear along the edges, some foxing and browning. The cardboard binding with imprinted title shows visible traces of age and wear. On the inner side, the endpaper is ripped. At the back are next to the exlibris some inscriptions in red pen. A la Librairie Dalp et chez l'éditeur à Berne, 1857.
