Marginal annotations, occasional foxing, and a small hole in the lower margin (endpaper to p.124). A key 17th-century medical text, translated into multiple languages and printed for over fifty years.

Vgl. Garrison-Morton 5575 (fr. Ausgabe 1707). – Die erste deutsche Ausgabe in der Bearbeitung von Lorentz Heister (1683-1758). Anhand von 10 Lehr-Demonstrationen beschreibt Pierre Dionis (1643-1718) mit seinem Hauptwerk chirurgische Operationen an allen Körperteilen mit den dazugehörigen Instrumenten, die jeweils auf den Tafeln dargestellt und für die Zuordnung im Text mit Buchstaben versehen sind. Da die Chirurgie in Frankreich zu jener Zeit weiter entwickelt war als in Deutschland, sorgte die fachlich exakte und gleichwohl verständlich gehaltene Übersetzung Heisters für die Übertragung der Kenntnisse nach Deutschland. – Vereinzelte Fleckchen. Schön erhalten. - Aus dem früheren Besitz von Verecundus Faltus, Chirurg und Prior des Klosters Brno (Brünn), beide Bände mit seinem handschriftlichen Exlibris auf dem weißen Blatt vor dem Titel. Dieser jeweils mit Rundstempel des Konvents in Brno. Je ein weiterer Stempel auf der letzten Seite und am unteren Rand von Tafel XXXII.

    4to: xv-[1]-408 pp. (some pp. more heavily browned). - Rare first edition of this treatise on midwifery by the French anatomist and surgeon P. Dionis (1643-1718). Illustrated with an engr. author's portrait by Daudet and 7 full-page engr. pl. The work deals with all aspects of obstetrics incl. conception, pregnancy, delivery, and the choosing of a suitable midwife and wet nurse. Dionis taught anatomy and surgery at the Jardin du Roi in Paris and was the first to conduct anatomical dissections and surgical operations there in public. In 1680 he became surgeon to Maria Theresa of Spain, and subsequently to the Dauphines Marie-Adelaïde of Savoy and Marie-Anne-Victoire of Bavaria. - Ref.
