Charles Dix (2/5/39-2/2/2005); MCM Wisconsin artist. Charles Dix was a painter since his youth and achieved regional and national recognition for his watercolor and mixed media abstract works. After winning awards for paintings created during his high school years in Oconomowoc, he studied at the Rhode Island School of Design and Layton School of art in Milwaukee. Later he began to experiment with innovative techniques, creating fluid works with atmospheric combinations of watercolor, oil, and reflective layers of acrylic paints and metallic powders. Influenced by his interest in science fiction and space phenomena, his dreamy landscapes also reflected a love of nature. He lived in a contemporary home and gallery of his own design in rural Delafield surrounded by beautiful gardens. The light and colors of the desert inspired works created at his winter home and studio in Tucson, Arizona. Extremely prolific, it has been estimated that he created more than 6000 paintings during his lifetime. Represented in galleries from San Francisco to New York his work is also installed in numerous museum, library and university collections. His home, studio and gardens were often open for public tours and were the site of fund raising events for charitable organizations in the Milwaukee area. He was a member of Wisconsin Painter and Sculptors and Wisconsin Designer Craftsmen, The Wisconsin Watercolor Society, and the Springfield Art Alliance. This is an original acrylic, impaste, and bronze. This immense custom studio piece was completed in 1974 and is one of his master works. It is signed by the artist; Measures 50"H x 97"L x 2"D
