      FRANZ JOSEF DOBIASCHOFSKY

(Cfr.

Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 7,000 Euro The here presented architect Josef Lippert is depicted next to his young wife and infant son. He was also active in Vienna and had created, for instance, the neo-Gothic interior of the parish church of St. Elisabeth, where Dobiaschofsky had been commissioned to paint the altarpiece. Condition: The painting is in good condition, consistent with age. The oval image section is slightly rubbed along the edges. The varnish appears minimally discolored in the center of the depiction. There is a fine vertical scratch of approximately 11 cm, leading through the flower tendril of the child. Besides, there are two tiny scratched areas on the left edge of the oval. The frame shows a number of scattered losses of material; some of the chippings are collected in a separate bag. The stretcher measures 171 x 134 cm and the frame 205 x 165 cm. Franz Joseph Dobiaschofsky (1818-1867) Born in Vienna, Franz Joseph Dobiaschofsky studied at the Academy of Arts from 1830 to 1841, where he attended the classes of Joseph von Führich (1800-1876) and Leopold Kupelwieser (1796-1862). Since 1861 he had been a member of the Vienna ‘Künstlerhaus’, and from 1865 he was also included in the Academic Council. He was mainly focused on religious and historical themes, but he also painted genre scenes and portraits. Works by Franz Joseph Dobiaschofsky are preserved, for instance, at the Albertina in Vienna, the Dreifaltigkeitskirche in Salzburg and the Niedersächsische Landesmuseum in Hanover.
