(1623 Amsterdam - 1673 Sloten bei Amsterdam) attr.; Ansicht einer holländischen Hafenstadt Kauffahrteiszene, wohl in Delft, mit angelandetem, kleinem Handelsschiff und auslaufendem Zweimaster. In lasierender Weise ausgeführte, atmosphärisch gestimmte, durch Figurenstaffage belebte Vedute. Jacob van der Does wurde vornehmlich durch italienisierende Landschaften mit Hirten- und Tiermotiven bekannt, beeinflusst von Jan Both und Nicolaes Berchem. 1644-1650 lebte er in Rom, wo er in die Gesellschaft der Bentvueghels aufgenommen wurde, die dort tätige niederländische und flämische Künstler vereinte. Nach seiner Rückkehr ließ er sich in Den Haag nieder und war 1656 Mitbegründer der neuen Malergilde Confrerie Pictura in Den Haag. Öl/Eichenholztafel. M. u. sign. "V Does"; Verso altes Sammlungs-Etikett des 18./19. Jhs. mit handschriftlicher Bez. und Zuschreibung an Jacob van der Does. 56 cm x 82,5 cm. Wohl Original-Rahmen. Attributed to Jacob van der Does (1623 - 16763). Oil on oak panel. Signed "V Does". Inscribed on an old collection label (18th or 19th C.) with attribution to Jacob van der Does. Der Amsterdamer Landschafts- und Tiermaler Jacob van der Does hatte sich auf die Darstellung meist südlicher Landschaften mit akkurat wiedergegebenen Tieren und Hirten spezialisiert. Seine tonige Malweise mit einer ausgeprägten Vorliebe für die Verwendung olivbrauner Farbtöne unterscheidet sein Schaffen von jenem seines Zeitgenossen und Freundes Karel Dujardin, der sich mit vergleichbaren Themen befasste.

Dutch painter, draughtsman and engraver. He went on a study stay to Italy via Paris, he was active in The Hague and Amsterdam, he is known for his Italian landscapes with animals and shepherds in the style of A. v. d. Velde. A shepherd with sheep, goats and a cow indistinctly signed and dated 'J V DER.... PINXIT(?) 1641' oil on canvas 161/2 x 21 5/8 in. (42 x 55 cm.) NOTES The artist, a pupil of Nicolaes Moeyaert, painted Italian landscapes with well-observed animals and herdsmen in the style of Adriaen van de Velde, of which the present work is a typical example. His works, which tend to be rich in tone, often coloured by an olive-brown shade, also frequently display the influence of his friend, Karel Dujardin, for example his Mountain landscape with cattle and herdsmen in the Herzog Anton Ulrich-Museum, Brunswick.
