French Art Deco Opera Travel Advertisement Poster

A French Art Deco style wall sized travel poster designed by the French artist Georges Dola, pseudonym of Edmond Vernier (1872-1950). Titled, "Valses de Vienne" ("Viennese Waltzes"), produced circa 1934. A colorful French language figural work advertising an opera in three acts and seven scenes, featuring the music of Johann Strauss the Elder and Johann Strauss the Younger. Published by Editions Max Eschig (Paris). Artist signed in the plate to center right I DOLA ("I am Dola"). French language printing details to bottom edge. Presented under glass in a museum quality frame with gilt embellishments. Sight size measures approximately 46.25" x 30". Dimensions: 50 X 33 X .75 in. Condition: Good overall condition having age related paper toning. Frame with mild to moderate wear to edges and corners. Estate fresh to the market. Chanson d'Amour (Song of Love) was a three act French operetta created by Hughes Delorme and Leon Abric, which premiered in Paris on the 7th of May,1921. The operetta was an adaptation of Das DreimÃ¤derlhaus, and is a fictionalized account of Schubert's love life adapted from the 1912 novel Schwammerl by Rudolf Hans Bartsch. The music was composed by Franz Schubert. Georges Dola (1872-1950) was born in Dole - a town in Eastern France. Dola's birth name was Edouard Vernier but he painted under the name of Georges Dola, having taken his name from his hometown. He was a painter, printer (specializing in lithography), and a graphic designer. He was also well known for his sheet music covers and his operetta poster works. He worked in Paris, mostly in the film and advertising industries.
