blue dress with white lace trim, layered frilled short sleeves and white lace cuffs, matching ribbons in her blonde hair and pale pink rose at her corsage signed on the reverse and dated Painted by/ Miss Douglas/ 13 Hart Street/ Edinburgh/ 1842 and inscribed Daughter of the/ late William Douglas/ Miniature Painter, set in a red leather travelling case rectangular, 90mm. (3 1/2in.) high The daughter of William Douglas (see following lot), Archibald was born, 23rd April, 1807. She exhibited at the Royal Academy, 1834-41 from the same address found on the reverse of the present lot. She died, Christmas day, 1886.
