In the Hamatsa dance ceremony is one of the most important in Kwakwaka’wakw tradition, in which members of the sacred Hamatsa society perform dances that narrate tales of the cannibalistic giant from the north end of the world, Baxbakwalanuksiwe’. Douglas David was born in Seattle, Washington and is the son of renowned First Nations artist Joe David.           David Douglas Duncan Picasso at Vauvenargues 1972 David Douglas Duncan (American, b. 1916) signed offset photographic print, 'Picasso at Vauvenargues.', signed in pencil lower right margin and dated '72. . Kansas City native David Duncan was an important American wartime photographer known for his images of World War II, Korean and Vietnam war realities. He later was granted unprecedented access to his friend Pablo Picasso, capturing images of the great artist at work and at home. Duncan's book 'Viva Picasso' references this image of Picasso at Chateau de Vauvenargues. The full sheet measures 13 x 19.75 inches in 21 x 28 inch frame.
