Biography from the Archives of askART: Painter Walter Douglas was born in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1868. A pupil of William Merritt Chase, Douglas studied at the Art Students League of New York and National Academy of Design. Douglas was a member of the American Watercolor Society, Salmagundi Club, Salon of America and Society of Independent Painters. He exhibited extensively at the National Academy of Design, Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts, Art Institute of Chicago, Boston Arts Club, Salmagundi Club, Society of Independent Artists and at the 1904 St. Louis Exposition. Douglas's works are held in the permanent collections of the Dallas Museum of Fine Art, New Haven Historical Society, Brooklyn Museum and Jersey City Museum.       Walter Douglas. 1868-1948. Oil on canvas. Signed on lower right "W. Douglas". Noted landscape, still life, and marine painter, Walter Douglas was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He attended the National Academy of Design and the Art Students League in New York City, where he remained most of his life. Beginning in 1894, Douglas exhibited regularly at the Boston Art Club, the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, the Art Institute of Chicago, and later at the Society of Independent Artists. As a specialist in painting the domestic life of barnyard foul, Douglas died in Morristown, New Jersey in 1948. Size 12" x 16".
