This 1980 portfolio consists of ten five-color hand printed stone lithographs printed on BFK Rives paper and ten monochrome images, printed on hand made paper. The edition size is limited to 150. Individual cultures are presented by a pair of images (one color and one monochrome) and a legend sheet explaining history and symbolism. A justification sheet with information about the creation of the suite, handmade paper on which the images are printed, and master printer and paper maker is included.         John L. Doyle (1939 - 2010) Builders and Merchants Suite of 20 Stone Lithographs. The images are a visual interpretation of man's most enduring record of civilization, architecture. The structures presented are houses to live in, places to govern in, shrines to worship in, and tombs to be buried in. The edition number is 118/150. This 1983 suite consists of ten five-color hand printed stone lithographs printed on BFK Rives paper and ten monochrome images, printed on handmade paper by master paper-maker Roland Poska. The paper size for the Portfolio Justification sheet and ten pairs of artworks in the suite is 30" x 20". The portfolio measures 33x24x1.5 inches. Includes images titled: The Vision, The Spirit's House, The Otter's Request, Military Architect, Pharoah's Soul, Reliquarian, House of Words, Hand of Islam, Christian Builder, Aztec Echo. John L.
