  • Yosef Drenters "Mother and Child" Wood Carving
    Feb. 08, 2020

Yosef Drenters "Mother and Child" Wood Carving

    Est: $12,000 - $15,000

Canadian. 1969. A unique wood carving by inventor and Canadian artist Josef Drenters (1931-1983). Drenters reflected his inner soul in his art. He studied for the priesthood before coming to British Columbia. This piece is a perfect combination of two religions coming together - Indigenous West Coast and his European Belgian background perfectly manifested here in the common human denominator of 'mother and child.' This sculpture represents the naive folk art form while reflecting on the artist's personal respect and interest with the use of 'found' materials with local provenance. Drenters was known for his "Mother and Child" carvings and this is a monumental example. 6' tall. Gifted by Drenters to the current owner. Subject to reserve. $12000/15000.
