The signature of the artist appears on the lower right corner. Fair conditions. Image dimensions: 26 x 21 cm. Beautiful fresh artwork representing a sketch of a boy with a headgear; the face of the figure is only sketched and he wear a strange showy headgear. This work has been realized by the French artist Jean Dreyfus-Stern, a painter and engraver born in Paris and died in the same city in 1972. He lived in of Montmartre-aux-artistes (189 rue Ordener). Attracted by painting very soon, Jean Dreyfus-Stern became one of the pupils of Charles-François-Prosper Guérin (for painting) and Bernard Naudin (for engraving) before attending the Académie Colarossi and Maurice Denis and his workshops. In his landscapes (in particular Brittany and Honfleur landscapes), "colors are sincere as in the works of his friend Louis Neillot", he is also one of the rare artists of his time to have invested in the circus and sport subjects. 37 x 32 (foglio), 26 x 21 (image)

TABLEAU "VUE D'UN LAC DEPUIS UNE TERRASSE" DE Jean DREYFUS-STERN (1890-1969) Huile sur toile signée en bas à gauche 33 x 46 cm Jean Dreyfus-Stern, naît sous le nom de Jean Maurice Dreyfus dans le 10e arrondissement de Paris le 20 décembre 1890. Attiré très tôt par la peinture, Jean Dreyfus-Stern devient élève de Charles-François-Prosper Guérin (pour la peinture) et de Bernard Naudin (pour la gravure) avant de fréquenter l'Académie Colarossi et les ateliers de Maurice Denis et d'Antoine Bourdelle. Sociétaire du Salon d'automne depuis 1920 et du Salon des indépendants depuis 1923, il expose aussi au Salon des Tuileries dès 1924 et à Copenhague, La Haye, Madrid et Tokyo (1928). Fils de banquier, vivant confortablement de ses rentes, Jean Dreyfus-Stern n'est pas dans la nécessité financière de vendre ses tableaux, pas plus qu'il n'a le souci d'accéder à la célébrité. Ce « grand bourgeois » n'a nul besoin d'exposer (même si après sa participation au Salon des artistes décorateurs de 1925 ses œuvres, alors largement et élogieusement remarquées par le monde des critiques d'art, sont présentées à Madrid, Copenhague, La Haye, Tokyo, Rio de Janeiro), confirme Gérald Schurr, expliquant par là l'oubli dont la vente de son atelier en 1981 le fera ressortir. Si, dans les paysages de Jean Dreyfus-Stern (notamment de la Bretagne et de Honfleur), « les couleurs sont franches comme dans les œuvres de son ami Louis Neillot », il est aussi l'un des rares artistes de son temps à avoir investi les mondes du cirque (Acrobates sous les feux des projecteurs) et du sport (Peloton cycliste, Arrivée de course à pied)
