      Charcoal, washed, on used paper, mounted in passepartout out of offset cardboard France, 1960 Nguyen Manh Duc DUCMAN (b. 1934) – Vietnamese-French painter Lower right signed and dated with India ink ‘DUCMAN’ Lower right signed in pencil on the passepartout ‘DUCMAN’ On the reverse singed, inscribed and dated with India ink ‘DUCMAN Avril-Paris 1960’ Sheet size: 29.3 x 20 cm Passepartout: 51.2 x 39 cm Estimate by Auctionata Expert: 300 EUR The image area in significantly upright oblong format is covered with ink traces, applied delicately washed which comprises the roughened surface of the used paper with the design. Born in Hanoi in Vietnam in 1934 the artist Ducman came to Paris as a young man, where he exhibited his work at the Galerie René Drouin. His career got a boost when Ducman moved to New York in 1965, where he received a grant from the Rockefeller Foundation and attracted the attention of art dealer Alan Stone, who to this day exhibits the artist's work in his gallery. The washed India ink drawing in passepartout is signed lower right with India ink ‘DUCMAN’ and lower right signed once again in pencil on the passepartout ‘DUCMAN’. On the reverse it is signed, inscribed and dated with India ink ‘DUCMAN Avril-Paris 1960’. The passepartout shows minor wear. The sheet measures 29.3 x 20 cm, the passepartout 51.2 x 39.
